MISSION STATEMENT: JJ&B’s Gifted Gifts Foundation Inc. is a non-profit, non-partisan foundation that “gifts” back to help children in need. We want to make the world a better place through “gifting” back to children.
My name is Jenna Martin. I am the Founder and CEO of JJ&B’s Gifted Gifts Foundation Inc.
I am 12 years old and I have cerebral palsy. I was a micro preemie born at 24 weeks weighing 1lb 7 oz. I have been through so much in my young 12 years. I’ve been blessed to have had so many people involved in my life to help me get through some major physical disabilities. Most of my care was from the great doctors, nurses and volunteers at Scottish Rite Hospital of Dallas. They were so nice and took good care of me during doctor visits and when I had to have surgery for my legs.
This year, a week before my 12th birthday, my father asked me what I wanted as a gift. I told him I had everything I needed, food, shelter, clothes and a loving family. So I told him any gifts I receive for my birthday I wanted to “gift” them back to the children at Scottish Rite Hospital – because I know how bad it feels to be in the hospital.
We started to talk about setting up a foundation to help children year round through “gifting” back. That’s what we did. I came up with the name, JJ&B’s Gifted Gifts Foundation. My foundation name means so much to me because it personal. J is for Jenna, the other J is for Jessica (she is my twin who passed away 12 hours after she was born) and B is for Brianna (this is my sister that passed away years ago). My foundations motto is “We “gift” back”.
I have a big dream and vision and I need your help!
I want everyone to “gift” back gifts through my foundation. I want to be able to take as many gifts as possible down to Scottish Rite Hospital to help make all the kids who are in the hospital happy. I have and continue to be a patient of Scottish Rite Hospital since I was 3 years old.
This hospital helped me to walk. It was not easy. The doctors, nurses and volunteers helped me walk every step. I have had braces on my legs, used walkers to walk, got injections in both legs and had many surgeries. My latest surgery was on my right leg last year. I was in the hospital for 5 days and out of school for over 8 weeks.
Gifts for Children in Pain
When I was in the hospital I looked forward to the day when the cart came around. On the cart were toys, books and kid stuff they gave to you when you were in hospital and while you were waiting to be seen by the doctor in the clinics. These gifts took my mind off the pain I was in from my surgery and I actually looked forward to my doctor visits because I knew was going to get a gift. My mom said the toys put a big smile on my face. It would make my day! I want to give other children that same feeling and smile. I want to make their day!
I Need YOUR Help to Provide Gifted Gifts
I am dedicated to my foundation but I need your help. Please help me with my vision and dream to get as many gifts as we can to children who have to spend so much time in the hospital.
Help me “gift” back. Through my foundation we can provide smiles for so many kids. We can help make them forget about their pain and look forward to their doctor visits. I don’t want our gifting to be a seasonal thing. Lots of people give at Christmas. I want to give year round. Our gifting goal is to gift once a month 12 times a year. If each person gives up ONE gift they are given for their birthday, Valentine’s Day, or any holiday, it’s one more gift that can go to my foundation so we can give to the children.
